Marching Band Attire

Uniforms provide a professional appearance to the Marching Band for contest and public performances and will be issued for marching season and concert season. The uniform is something that should be worn with pride!

Participation in the Band Program and the use of the uniform that comes with it is a privilege. Conduct while in uniform should enhance the reputation of our organization, not degrade it.

It is required that all Band members sign and return a Uniform Contract, acknowledging their responsibility to care for the uniform that will be assigned to that Marching Band member.

Uniform Cleaning Fee

It is required that all Wind and Percussion members pay a fee to help with the cost of keeping both the marching and concert uniforms dry cleaned.

Color Guard members who perform with a performing Band will be required to pay an adjusted uniform cleaning fee. These Color Guard members are responsible for their Color Guard fees.

Color Guard members who do not perform with a Band will be responsible for their Color Guard fees.
Check Out and Return

Students will pick up uniforms from the uniform room before performance report time.

Students should follow the posted pick up/return guidelines. Students who do not follow these guidelines will be sent to the end of the pick-up/return line.

Students will be issued a uniform number that should be memorized or recorded in a readily accessible location. Students will use this number to pick up their uniform from the uniform storage room.
Gloves
Gloves are a required piece of the marching uniform for wind players. Replacement gloves are $6.
Black Socks

All members of the Marching Band (excluding Color Guard) are required to wear long, unprinted black socks.

Block socks are a required piece of both marching and concert uniforms.
Black Shoes

Black marching shoes are a required piece of the marching uniform.

Marching shoes will be ordered as a group in August.

Individuals who miss ordering or have misplaced their shoes can order shoes independently. Contact a Director for reference to our Marching Band shoe vendor.
Other Parts of the Marching Uniform

Coat—All Winds and Percussionists will be issued a topcoat.

Bibbers—All Winds and Percussionists will be issued a set of pants.

Band Shirt—All Winds and Percussionists are required to wear their Band shirt under their topcoat. Band shirts are ordered in August.

Shako/Beret—Most Winds and Percussionists will be issued a shako (hat). Sousaphones will wear a beret. Front Ensemble members do not wear a shako. Shakos are handed out and returned at each Marching Band performance.

Plume—Each Marching Band member will be using a plume in the shako. Plumes are handed out and returned at each Marching Band performance.

Gauntlets—All Winds and Percussionists will be wearing gauntlets as a part of the new uniform. Gauntlets will be handed out and returned at each marching performance.

Poncho—Each Marching Band member will be assigned a poncho for wet weather. Ponchos will be stored in the uniform garment bag.
Liability
All students will be held accountable for district-owned uniform pieces issued to them. This responsibility will include fire, theft, accidental damage, abuse, and general maintenance not incurred through normal use. To acknowledge this responsibility, both students and parents are required to sign and submit the Humble ISD Uniform Contract.
Incomplete Uniform
Having an incomplete uniform will result in limited performance time.
Uniform Decorum

There will be no variations from the proper wearing of the uniform unless designated by the Directors. Never wear your hat backward or any other way unspecified by the Director. Never be seen in public without the proper dress.

Partial wearing of uniforms is only allowed when given instructions to do so.

There is to be no eating, gum chewing, or drinking anything other than water while in uniform, unless approved by the Band Directors and provided by the Band as part of a Band function.

There may be inspections before performances to ensure all students are properly attired. Students who do not wear the uniform correctly may not be allowed to perform and will have their class grade lowered as a result.

Do not wear bracelets, watches, necklaces, or other jewelry. No earrings are allowed. No fingernail polish or paint. No unnatural hair coloring (blue, green, purple, pink, and any other unnatural hair coloring not mentioned).

Band shirt TUCKED IN

All longer hair must be pulled back in ONE braid at the back of the head. French, standard, herringbone, etc. It does not matter as long as it is in one braid with a black hair tie. All loose pieces of hair and shorter hair should be pinned or held back with a black athletic headband so there is no hair hanging in the face besides bangs or hair hanging over the shirt collar.

When in CASUAL UNIFORM, students are NOT allowed to wear any jewelry.

When in CASUAL UNIFORM, painted fingernails are allowed if they are not distracting (no neon colors) and are in a short and classy length.

When in CASUAL UNIFORM, students are allowed to wear low-key, classy makeup. However, heavy eye or lip makeup is not permitted.
